Kauai Disaster Relief Efforts - HL Charitable Fund

Aloha from Kaua‘i’s North Shore,

As you may be aware, Hawaii Governor David Ige and Kaua‘i Mayor Bernard Carvalho have both signed emergency proclamations, declaring a disaster on Kaua‘i.

Kaua‘i’s North Shore has been hit with record rainfalls from a terrible storm in the past few days, resulting in severe flooding, road closures and landslides that are affecting both local residents and visitors. The National Guard and Coast Guard are on the scene to help reach and evacuate the area, still blocked off at the singular point of entry to the North Shore at the Hanalei Bridge, which remains impassable.

Due to multiple landslides along the Kuhio Highway past Hanalei, many residents and visitors are trapped in Ha‘ena and Wainiha, with no means of obtaining supplies or fresh water. Senior citizens and people needing medicine are among those trapped. The roads are impassable, so many are being evacuated using local boats. The flooding and landslides have also affected other areas of Kaua‘i, beyond the North Shore, as well as areas in East O‘ahu.

Hawai‘i Life is headquartered in Princeville. We are assisting with local efforts to provide aid and support to visitors and residents of our Kaua’i community, as well as to those affected in East O‘ahu by recent flooding and storm damage.

To that end, we are immediately redirecting money from the Hawai’i Life Charitable Fund to support the efforts of the following non-profit organizations. Hawaii Life is going to match the next $25,000 in funds given to the Charitable Fund (give.hawaiilife.com) and disperse the funds to the organizations below.

Our partners at the Hawai‘i Community Fund have recommended these organizations, who are providing immediate aid.
